A small chip for peace of mind that lasts a lifetime
It is now a legal requirement for all dogs and cats in England to be microchipped before they are 8 weeks old. Microchipping is a simple procedure, each microchip has a unique code which is registered on a national database. Should your pet go missing animal professionals (e.g. vet or dog warden) will scan your pet and contact the database to obtain owner details.
Therefore reuniting your pet much quicker. It is essential microchip details are kept up to date. If you need any information on which database your pets microchip is registered to, we will be happy to help.
Why microchipping matters
Every year, thousands of lost pets are brought into practices and rescue centres without any way of contacting their owners. A microchip changes that.
It’s quick, safe and causes minimal discomfort
Legally required for dogs in the UK — and from 10 June 2024, for cats too
Increases the chance of a safe, happy reunion if your pet is lost or stolen
Helps identify your pet in emergencies or accidents
It’s a one-time procedure with lifetime protection
The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. It holds a unique ID number that links to your contact details on a secure national database.
