Benefits of Neutering
Neutering doesn’t just help control the pet population, it also supports your pet’s long-term health, happiness and behaviour. Some of the main benefits include:
Prevents unwanted litters
Reduces the risk of certain cancers (e.g. mammary, testicular or uterine cancer)
Helps reduce roaming and straying behaviour
Can calm aggressive or hormone-driven behaviours
Eliminates the risk of pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection in females)
Avoids seasonal bleeding in females
Helps pets live longer, healthier lives
We’ll always take the time to talk through what’s right for your pet, their breed, and their lifestyle.

neutering FAQ’s
-
Cats: 5/6months of age
Rabbits: 6 months of age
Dogs: Depending on a patients breed this can be anywhere from 6 months - 12 months of age. For females we generally spay 3 months after their 1st season ( or 3 months after a season in older dogs). For males deciding whether or not to castrate and what age they are depends entirely on the lifestyle and temperament of the patient.
We encourage owners to have a chat with us regarding neutering and together we can decide when the right time for neutering your pet may be depending on health, temperament, behaviour and lifestyle.

Neutering doesn’t change your pet’s personality, but it can reduce unwanted behaviours linked to hormones, such as mounting, roaming, spraying, or aggression in some cases.
-
There are medical alternatives in some cases (such as hormone injections for male dogs), but they are usually temporary. We’ll talk you through your options if you’re unsure.
