Planning a trip with your pet?

Since the UK has left the EU travelling with your pets has changed. Hanako Viant DVM MRCVS is our Official Veterinary Surgeon (OV) and is able to issue Animal Health Certificates for travelling abroad. If you are planning on taking your pet on holiday it is recommended to book an appointment with Hanako to discuss any specific requirements to your country of travel well in advance of your planned travel date.

What we offer

We provide pet travel services including:

  • Rabies vaccinations (required for travel to most EU and non-EU countries)

  • Animal Health Certificates (AHCs) – replacing pet passports post-Brexit

  • Full health checks before travel

  • Worming treatments (required for return travel from certain countries)

  • Advice on travel rules, airline requirements and destination-specific regulations

travel FAQ’s

    • Pet Passports are no longer valid for travel from the UK to the EU. You'll need an Animal Health Certificate, issued within 10 days of travel.

    • Your pet must be microchipped and have an up-to-date rabies vaccination.

    • Rules can vary by country, so it’s always best to check in advance and book in plenty of time to avoid last-minute stress.

  • An AHC is a document required for travel to the EU and Northern Ireland. It proves your pet is microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. It must be issued within 10 days of travel and is valid for one trip.

  • We recommend contacting us at least three months before travel, especially if your pet’s rabies vaccination is due or if this is your first trip abroad with them.

  • An AHC is only valid for one trip. You’ll need a new one for each journey to the EU or NI. If you travel frequently, ask us about the best way to manage your schedule.

  • Not for travel from Great Britain. EU-issued pet passports may still be valid for entry into the UK, but UK-issued ones are no longer accepted for outbound travel.

  • Yes, for dogs returning from certain countries (like Ireland, Finland or Malta), a tapeworm treatment must be administered and recorded by a vet 1–5 days before returning to the UK.
