Kitten Behaviour – What’s Normal and What’s Not

Kittens are a bundle of energy, playful, curious, and often a little mischievous. But what’s normal for a growing kitten, and when should you be concerned?

Normal kitten behaviours

  • Pouncing, climbing, chasing – instinctive and important for development

  • Play biting and scratching – often aimed at littermates or owners, but needs gentle redirection

  • Zoomies (sudden energy bursts) – totally normal, especially in the evening

  • Exploring EVERYTHING – keep wires, plants, and small objects out of reach

  • Kneading or suckling – a leftover kitten habit that’s usually harmless

When to seek advice

  • Aggression that seems out of context or excessive

  • Fearful behaviour that isn’t improving over time

  • Sudden lethargy, lack of appetite or hiding

  • Toileting outside the litter tray with no clear reason

  • Compulsive behaviours like over-grooming

Early support makes a big difference. If something doesn’t feel quite right, book a check-up, we’ll help you understand your kitten’s behaviour and offer simple ways to build good habits from the start.
